Assistant Child Care Teacher  - Course Requirements:

  • Introduction to the Child Care Profession
  • Fundamentals of Infant & Toddler Care
    (if working with children under 2 years of age)
  • School-Age Assistant Child Care Worker
    (if working with school-age children)
Introduction to the Child Care Profession (45 clock hours)
Skills and Strategies for the Child Care Teacher (45 clock hours)
This course is designed for those who are interested in working as an assistant childcare teacher in either a group or family childcare program. It meets the educational training requirement as specified by the Wisconsin Department of Children & Families. An interactive course that enables students to gain the knowledge and develop the skills needed to work with young children in public or private childcare settings.

Topics include: quality childcare environments, child development, positive guidance, recognizing child abuse & neglect, routines & schedules, transitions, nutrition, universal precautions, health & safety, SIDS, shaken baby syndrome prevention, respect for diversity, parent communication and stress management.
This course is designed for those who are interested in working as a lead childcare teacher in either a group or family childcare program. It meets the educational training requirement as specified by the Wisconsin Department of Children & Families. Designed to provide interactive experiences for students to further their early childhood education and advance their career in childcare.

Topics include: growth & development, curriculum planning, observing & recording, developmentally appropriate activities for math, science, language, gross & fine motor, art, music and sensory, ADA, learning centers, parent communication, positive guidance and professional development.
This course is a must for those individuals working with 6-12 year olds. It meets the educational training requirement by Wisconsin Department of Children & Families for school age caregivers.

Topics include: profile of a school age teacher, quality care, growth & development, school age classroom environment, field trip planning, multi-age activity planning, safety and behavior management.


This course meets the educational requirements as specified by Wisconsin Department of Children & Families for individuals who wish to start a family daycare. It is designed to provide essential information about establishing a successful in-home childcare business that is in accordance with Wisconsin's State Law. Students must have first completed the "Introduction to the Childcare Profession" course.

Topics include: establishing a family daycare business, program & financial records, policies for health, safety, nutrition and development of children, state licensing requirements, professionalism, parent communication, and activity planning.

This course is imperative for those working with 6 week to 2 year old children. It meets the educational training requirement by the Wisconsin Department of Children & Families for infant and toddler caregivers in group or family childcare settings.

Topics include: nurturing, health & safety, environment, routines, developmentally appropriate guidance, activity planning, parent communication, growth & development, staff/child interactions, shaken baby syndrome prevention, child abuse & neglect recognition and prevention and SIDS training.

Additional Training Requirements for Family & Group Child Care:  Before becoming licensed or providing care and supervision to children under age 5, a provider, substitute, volunteer, emergency back-up or any other person providing care and supervision to children in a child care center shall have completed WI department approved training in Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention. Additionally, each child care provider and substitute shall receive training in Child Abuse & Neglect Recognition and Prevention every 2 years.

Continuing Education: Each administrator, center director and child care worker who works more than 20 hours a week in a group child care center shall participate in at least 25 hours of continuing education each year. Those working 20 or fewer hours a week shall participate in at least 15 hours of continuing education each year. Family child care providers shall participate in at least 15 hours of continuing education each year.
