Question:  How is online training different?

Answer:  Taking courses online (distance education) is a great way to accomplish professional development objectives, while maintaining a full or part time job and a busy family schedule. Work and Family Consulting of SE WI online training offers the convenience of taking coursework from work, home, library or anywhere Internet access is available. It is a great option for students with busy schedules that may prevent them from attending more traditional scheduled or classroom trainings. Our online courses are available immediately, and are self-paced, allowing students to take courses anytime. Many of our students take courses in the evenings, after their children are in bed or on weekends. These students also save on gas and babysitting costs that often come with commuting to a traditional classroom environment.


Question: How do the courses work?

You simply register, choose the course(s) you are interested in, read the course material, review the resource/reference material, complete any required activities and then take the self-check quizzes.  We issue a certificate of completion that you can immediately print.


Question: Do I need computer skills to take an online course?

Answer: Only basic computer skills are required.   If you were able to get to this web page, you have all the skills you need to take our courses.  Complete instructions are always provided.


Question: Do I need to own a computer?

Answer:  No, students just need to have access to a computer (it may be your own, your employers, your schools, public library or community resource centers computer), have a valid email address, and access to the Internet.


Question: What are the computer requirements needed to take the courses?

Aswer: Most computers now come with the basic software required to take our courses. Since some courses have audio, speakers are a benefit. Courses also have handouts, so a printer is helpful. Each course provides specific computer requirements within its description.


Question:  Is an email address required to register?

Answer: Yes, an email address unique to you is required to register. If you do not currently have an email address, you can register for a free account from a provider such as (gmail) or


Question: How do I pay for the courses?

Answer: We prefer that you use a Visa, Mastercard, Discover, debit card, purchasing card or PayPal because you get immediate access to the courses with this method.  We also accept payment for courses by check or money orders. All payment transactions types mentioned above are managed through PayPal.


Question:  Am I required to purchase textbooks?

Answer:  No, you are not required to purchase textbooks…our courses are self-contained and do not have the additional costs of textbooks.


Question:  Are there any additional or hidden fees for your courses?

Answer:  No, all of our course costs are identified up front.


Question: What do I do after I have paid for the class?

Answer: Taking a course on-line is easy! Once your payment is confirmed you can click on the course title and start taking it. Every course is set up the same; there is a set of basic instructions, the course content and an evaluation form. Start at the beginning and read through the material.


Question: When can I take a course?

Answer: You can sign up and take any course 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Online education eliminates the need for you to leave home for evening or weekend trainings. No more driving through bad weather or paying a babysitter. You can complete the courses when it is convenient for you!


Question: How long do I have to complete the course?

Answer: Most people complete the courses immediately, but since our courses vary in length each expiration date may be different. You can stop and start at anytime during the courses time frame and your work will be automatically saved.  However, if you would like to extend your completion date…it's not a problem…simply email us at any time and let us know how long you need.


Question: Do I have to take the course all at once?

Answer: No, most courses are designed so you can take the entire course at once, however you don't have to. You can work through the course at your own pace. When you come back to the site you can view your course(s) and start where you left off, your work will be automatically saved. You do have a designated timeframe for completion (it varies per course) but if you would like an extension to the completion date it is easy to email us and make that request at any time.


Question: How long does a class take to complete?

Answer: Each class varies in length most are designed as 1 or 2 clock hours…however, you are able to work at your own pace and may take more or less time for each.  The CDA Preparation Course is an exception (it is designed to be completed at your own pace…in separate stages).


Question: Can I print the course?

Answer: The course content is designed to be used electronically; however each course contains reference and resource material that can be printed for your personal use.


Question: How are the courses graded?

Answer: Courses may include required activities and quiz questions. As you complete the course, your responses will be entered into the database for analysis. Based on your answers you will automatically be assigned a pass or fail grade. A passing grade is required to get credit for completing the course. You will be given the necessary chances to go back and review the material to assist in answering the questions correctly.


Question: How can I communicate with the instructor before, during or after the course?

Question: Will I be able to give feedback on the course?

Answer: Yes, at the end of each course you are provided with an evaluation form asking you to rate the course and for your comments or suggestions.


Question: How do I get proof of completion for the courses?

Answer: Participants are required to complete activities and/or quizzes and will be assigned a "pass" or "fail" grade. Participants who receive a "pass" will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion. The certificate includes all the information necessary for documentation of completion.


Question:  Do my certificates expire?

Answer: No, your certificates do not expire.  However, each state has different continuing education requirements and it is your responsibility to meet and document your training.


Question: I lost my certificate of completion…how can I get a replacement?

Answer: When you log in to your online training account you are provided with a list of your competed courses. To the right of each course listed is a link to display and print your completion certificate.


Question: Is the training approved?

Answer: All courses needing WI state approval have met those requirements and are documented with the WI DCF.

Question:  Are the courses accepted by all states for my annual clock hour requirements?

Answer:  Anyone may take any of our online courses to educate themselves on the care and needs of young children.  Our courses are recommended for anyone interested in early childhood education, daycare, or parenting and have been taken for years by caregivers all over the US and Canada. However, it depends on which state you are in…every state is different.  We have no control over the rules and regulations that a state may decide upon or change. So we always recommend that you check with your local licensing agency for the most current information when using our courses towards your annual clock hour requirement.


Question:  Do these courses count toward my CDA eligibility requirement?

Answer:  Yes, these courses can be used toward your 120 hours of training in early childhood within the past 5 years of your original CDA application.  CEU’s are required for your CDA renewal.


Question: What is a CEU?

Answer:Continuing education units (CEU's) are a way of quantifying training events that meet the criteria defined by the International Association for Continuing Education Training. These criteria require that the training be at least five hours in length, be an approved training and be taught by qualified personnel.

*"Continuing Education Units" are required to renew a CDA. CEUs can be determined by dividing the clock hours by 10.


Question: Who should pursue CEU's?


   - Anyone in the field of early childhood care and education

   - Anyone earning or renewing their Child Development Associate (CDA)

   - Those seeking in-depth training on specific topics. 


Question: How is the CEU used?

Answer: While the primary use of CEU records is for professional or occupational records, individuals also may wish to document their accomplishments in areas of technical or personal development. Individual CEU records also may be used to document completion of requirements for a major phase of training or education and indicate readiness to enter into the next phase of training or career enhancement.


Question: How do CEUs relate to college credit?

Answer: There is no relationship between CEU and academic credit. By definition, the CEU relates only to non-credit continuing education experiences. Academic credit applies specifically to degree requirements and CEUs are not awarded for that purpose. No institutions of higher education are known to give automatic credit for CEUs.

Question; Do I need to create a new log in if I already took a course on your site?

Answer: No, by logging into the online training system with your current username and password, you can enroll in additional courses.  


Question: How do I create a new user account?

Answer: Creating a new user account is quick and simple. Choose the “Create an Account” page from the top navigation bar. There is a Login box on this page. Underneath the Login button is a “Create new account” link. Click on the link and fill out the form. Make sure you complete all of the required fields; they are in red and marked with an asterisk*. Once you complete the form, you will be instructed to check your email for a message to confirm your account. Simply click on the verification link in the email, and your account has been established. You can now browse our Course Catalog and enroll in a course.
